The suffering of Christ on the cross made sense only because it made way for the miracle of Easter: On Easter Sunday, the wonder and joy of the resurrection took over the hardness and disbelief of what had happened. This example should make us understand that suffering only makes sense if it allows us to grow, to be reborn to ourselves.
So let’s try to squint to let the image of Christ’s suffering on the cross give way to that of a man wrapped in light. It is this flame that Christ calls us to be and radiate inside and outside us.
